The majority of mobile phone handsets equipped with satellite navigation or GPS are made by Nokia, according to research from Frost & Sullivan.
Nokia reports that it has been deemed the "number one choice" for mobile-based navigation.
Among current users of mobile GPS or sat-nav, 72 per cent of those surveyed in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Benelux and the UK rank Nokia as the number one brand.
Meanwhile, the mobile handset manufacturer also rates favourably among those who do not currently use such navigation, securing 62 per cent of the vote.
Accompanying figures for Russia show the brand's penetration to be even higher there, reaching the top spot in the opinions of 81 and 77 per cent of owners and non-owners respectively.
It was also recently revealed that future Nokia handsets could become more like the current netbooks following the announcement of a partnership between the mobile phone manufacturer and semiconductors producer Intel.
