Silver surfers 'keenest for bargains'

Older internet users are the most enthusiastic for snapping up a good deal online, according to new research. MyVoucherCodes.co.uk polled its users and discovered that silver surfers seek a discount code on almost all (95 per cent) of the goods they buy over the internet.

A majority of silver surfers (64 per cent) told the site that they have saved between £1,000 and £2,000 so far this year using the site. These were mostly for holidays and goods such as ovens and washing machines.

Managing director of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk Mark Pearson commented: "It just goes to show that our site appeals to every generation." The company had expected young, single people to carry out the most activity but in fact the most frequent users were silver surfers.

Gill Adams, an internet skills trainer with Digital Unite, recently commented that letting older people know they could save money by going online would be a good way to encourage them to learn computer skills.
